The legendary Slugfest Hams
The Slugfest Hams: A Meaty Legacy
The tradition of the Slugfest Hams began in 1995 with a Christmas gift of a canned ham, part of the "Night Krue" tradition. The following year, at "Family Relief," this ham was given to Tom Wiles, sparking a unique custom: each recipient signs the can and displays it prominently. Eventually adopted by Slugcity, the transfer of the ham became a highlight of their annual Slugfest gathering over Memorial Day.
Over time, the original ham seemingly "spawned" a smaller companion, adding a humorous twist to the tradition. These signed hams have journeyed across several states, including MO, TN, OH, and OK, marking the passage of years and custodians. Recently, the tradition has been enthusiastically embraced by the second generation of "Sluglings," ensuring this quirky and cherished piece of Slugcity history continues to bring laughter and connection for years to come.
